MOSCOW
TRIP NOTES FOR JANUARY OF 2004
John was born in Elmhurst, Illinois.
He was raised, with his eight brothers and sisters, in the Chicago
area. At the age of eighteen, John joined the U.S. Air Force
and was stationed in Northern Maine for four years. While in
the Air Force, he met a fellow G.I. who not only talked about
his faith, but demonstrated it as well. John began attending
church with him on a regular basis. John shares, "I learned
that being a Christian was different from what I pictured … these
guys were very normal, yet very serious about their faith." He
accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of twenty-one. In 1981
he returned to the Chicago area until 2001. While in the military
and later for business, John traveled extensively. He has visited
many parts of the United States, Europe, Egypt, Mexico, Brazil,
and China, to name a few. He has recently been to Russia twice
and participated in short-term mission work in several orphanages
throughout Russia.
John has an Airframe and Powerplant (A & P) rating from the
FAA. He finished his AA degree in Business Administration in
June 2000 from the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
Since serving in the Air Force, John has been a technician in
automated factory operations, an aircraft mechanic for a small
airline, and a project manager for an airline aircraft-telephone
service provider. John is currently involved in construction
work in the Chicago area.
John hopes to be able to raise awareness among the Christian
community of the plight and needs of orphans in Russia. John
is also personally supporting a family of four in Saint Peterburg,
Russia through the ministry of Project Hope - Russia.
Short-term Goals :
- To continue in the process of establishing
relationships and building trust levels with the staff of supported
orphanages or through other ministries.
- To locate ministries in Russia that
Needy Feet Ministries can be an effective partner with.
Long-term Goals :
- Demonstrate a Christian character in word
and deed to Russian orphans and the orphanage staff members
and friends.
- Raise people's awareness of the orphan
situation in Russia and encourage people to get involved in
adopting children or supporting the orphanages through established
ministries.
- To visit orphanages and carry the love
of the Lord to children in desperate need of love and caring.
- To establish trusting relationships with
the staff and children that may allow me to assist them in
meeting the needs of the facility, the staff members and the
children.
- To Pray everyday for the binding of the
work of evil in Russia and for the Christians that are working
hard to bring hope to a group of children that has so little
hope.
- To develop a prayer network of Christians
that have a heart for the children of Russia.
- The divine inspiration of the Bible
and its inerrant authority.
- One God in three persons: The Father,
Son and Holy Spirit.
- The divine creation of man. Man's
Fall through sin and the necessity of redemption and restoration.
- The deity of Jesus Christ. His birth,
sinless life, redeeming death bodily resurrection and His
return.
- The personal indwelling of the Holy
Spirit by whose regeneration man is born again and enabled
to live a godly life.
- The spiritual unity of all believers.
Having the responsibility of carrying the Gospel to every "tribe and tongue, people
and nation".
The Lord has expanded my awareness of His work in Russia. He has made it clear
that there is to be a long-term commitment to helping Russian orphans. The
Lord revealed to me while I was in Moscow, a simple truth that my life is no
longer to be "about me". It is about Him and His will for my life.
He has further revealed that His desire for me in the short-term is for me
to "concentrate on my Ministry" to the less fortunate children of
Russia.
I am anticipating getting involved in several orphanages as part of my mission
to Russia. I pray everyday for the Lord to lead me in this area. One group
of orphan girls at an orphanage in the City of Obninsk caught my attention
and my heart. There were four girls, Vika 16, Oksana 14, Svetlana 15, and Mary
12. ( I have since learned that each girl has at least one other sibling at
this orphanage ). From the moment I met Vika, I felt there was something special
about this girl. I found out that she was one of the older girls in the facility
and would have to leave by the time she was 18. She is lucky to have several
older brothers to assist her in finding a place to live when she leaves the
orphanage. Not all of these kids are as fortunate. I have been praying for
the Lord to lead me as to what I can do for Vika, her brothers, and the other
kids, as well.
I am also helping to financially support a single Mother and her three daughters
in the city of Saint Peterburg, Russia. The Mothers name is Olga. The daughters
are Violetta - 14, Dianna - 9, Sasha - 7. Their pictures are posted on this
page. The two youngest children are experiencing minor medical difficulties
and the support that I am sending is helping Olga to meet the health needs
of these children.

Since I have been praying for the Lord to build a wall around
Russia, to bind and frustrate the works of evil and protect
the Christians that are doing the work they are called
to for Him. The Lord spoke to me during one of these
prayer sessions, "Every prayer is like a brick on that wall." I look for
prayer partners to pray with me for many "bricks" on that wall.
He has made me aware of the Great Commission and the responsibility He
has given each of us to "GO" to the nations, either directly as mission
workers or indirectly by supporting those who do. My life and everything He
has made of me is His to do with as He sees fit. As Christians, we bring the
greatest Glory to God when we go out among the nations. In Malachi 1:11 the
Lord declares, " For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down,
My name shall be great among the nations …"
In order to move forward in the work
that Vera is doing for Needy Feet Ministries, it is my goal to
raise $200.00 in support for each month from churches and individuals.
The cost of living in Ilsky is considerably lower than most cities
in the United States. This support raised for The Chumak Family
would be sent to Russia in its entirety, no fee is taken from
the funds for administration costs. They will use the money primarily
for orphanage outreach efforts in the Ilsky / Sinegorski / Krasnodar
areas.
- $200.00 per month.
- $2,400.00 dollars per year
I am seeking churches or individuals that
are willing to assist me in the work Vera is doing in Russia
with children in the orphanages and playing a part in fulfilling
God's mission to bless the Nations of the World.
Please join me in these ministry efforts by supporting Vera each
month. Your prayers and financial support are appreciated. May
the Lord bless you abundantly, for His glory!!
